Plastic was our big topic in the fourth grade. Pupils could choose an environmental topic which is important to them (plastic, rainforest, fast fashion \u2026). Pupils created posters and presented presentations in class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here are some facts about plastic<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Did you know that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
? Marine litter is one of the fastest growing threats to the health of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the world\u2019s oceans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
? Plastic which we use for a minute or two, joins the water wave and<\/p>\n\n\n\n
needs decades to break down (water bottle up to 500 years), much<\/p>\n\n\n\n
of it joins the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
? By 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
? Plastic, which we throw away everyday, enters the food chain and<\/p>\n\n\n\n
possibly our bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
? More plastic was manufactured in the last 10 years than all of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n
last century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What can you do to avoid plastic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Refuse plastic bags in supermarkets and clothes stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Don\u2019t buy plastic bottles \u2013 up to 5000 years to rot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Don\u2019t wrap your bread in an aluminium foil and then put it in a<\/p>\n\n\n\n
reusable eating utensil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. Don\u2019t buy food in plastic boxes e.g. already cutted pieces of fruit in<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a plastic box. Make easy meals form unprocessed & unpacked<\/p>\n\n\n\n
foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Don\u2019t buy food to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. Don\u2019t buy fast fashion. In many clothes factories the workers don\u2019t<\/p>\n\n\n\n
get paid well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. Refuse for e.g. plastic items you get for free. Ask yourself: Do I<\/p>\n\n\n\n
really need this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
